This is an additional reading list from Lynn Duryea:

Being able to express ourselves in writing and to generate the many documents that accompany our artwork out into the world, is an essential aspect of what artists need to do. Here is a range of helpful sources:

The Elements of Style by William Strunk & E.B. White (Allyn & Bacon) the timeless and tiny volume on the grammatically and structurally correct way to write.

Writing for the Visual Arts by Mashey Bernstein & George Yatchisin (Prentice Hall), a short and accessible book that covers the basics of how to write about your art, resumes, press releases etc.

A Short Guide to Writing About Art by Sylvan Barnet (Pearson/Prentice Hall), more in-depth coverage of various kinds and styles of writing including manuscripts, research papers. Good to have.

The Practical Guide for the Emerging Artist by Margaret Lazzari (Harcourt College Publishers) is not inexpensive, but well worth the investment, full of very helpful information on how to function effectively as an artist. It includes helpful sections on various kinds of writing.

Easy Writer: A Pocket Guide by Andrea Lunsford (Bedford/St. Martins), a helpful source for grammar, style and research, with an almanac of resources from across disciplines. User friendly format.

The Everyday Writer by Andrea Lunsford (Bedford/St. Martin’s), billed as a short & sweet writing reference, it’s a more in-depth volume than Easy Writer by the same author. Also user friendly format.
